PATAGONIA PHOTO WORKSHOP
Exploring El Chaltén
OVERVIEW
Join my next photo tour in Patagonia in March 2025. I have been visiting and exploring the corners of one of the most beautiful and remote places in the world for years. Come and discover them with me.
This is the perfect place to learn how to take the best landscape photographs. We will focus on planning, composition, and post-processing of our images.
Get ready to see the peaks of these massifs glow fiery red at dawn and explore unseen places you probably don’t even know exist. Enjoy exciting nights under the moon and stars, sharing unforgettable memories and mountain stories.
PHOTO TOUR ITINERARY
Day 1
You will be picked up early in the morning from El Calafate Airport or your hotel. A 2.5-hour drive towards our destination, “El Chaltén,” awaits us.
Once in town, we will check into our hotel.
At sunset, we will do a one-hour hike to a lookout above the town, offering stunning views of El Chaltén. El Chaltén is not only the name of the town but also the mountain, commonly known as Fitz Roy. Its original name, “Chaltén,” means “smoking mountain” in Tehuelche or Aonikenk.
Day 2
Around noon, we will begin our five-day adventure, during which we will be camping for four nights.
Our first campsite is Poincenot, located along an 8-kilometer trail of easy to moderate difficulty. The trail gains most of its elevation in the first part, and the hike will take approximately 3 hours.
Once we arrive, we will promptly set up camp and then set out to explore the area in search of captivating compositions for the sunset.
Day 3
We will wake up three hours before sunrise. A 2-kilometer-long, steep trail with a moderate level of difficulty lies ahead of us. After reaching the top, we will immediately see the Fitz Roy mountain range and Laguna de los Tres in front of us.
With enough time in front of us, now is the perfect time to set up our gear to avoid missing a good shot at the right moment, and while we patiently wait, drink a hot coffee or a good Argentinian mate.
After going down to Poincenot, it’s time for lunch, have a little rest, and go to explore one of the most beautiful natural gardens straight out of a fairy tale.
And, like every night, we’ll be paying close attention to the sky above us so we don’t miss any possible Milky Way shots!
Day 4
Waking up early is well rewarded, especially in this area of Patagonia.
One hour before sunrise, we will head to a location that will leave you breathless.
This is a one-kilometer hike that will take around 40 minutes.
We will get everything ready to capture that dreamed-of sunrise photograph, and after that, we will have good light to spend a while there exploring and discovering corners and discovering amazing compositions.
After, it will be time to get back to the campsite, pack all our equipment, and, as soon as we finish having lunch, leave towards our next destination.
De Agostini, located near Laguna Torre, is our final campsite. A 10.5 km ( 3.5 hour ) hike with an easy level of difficulty that passes by Laguna Madre and Laguna Hija. We are going to set up camp and go straight away for sunset shots.
Day 5
We’ll leave our tents before dawn as usual, crossing our fingers for a clear view of Cerro Torre illuminated by the red colors of sunrise.
We have all day to explore the area and find interesting compositions for our night session.
Day 6
After our morning shooting, we will have lunch, pack up, and start our return to El Chaltén.
This is a 9-kilometer trail. Being of a low level of difficulty, it is very pleasant to walk since it does not present considerable elevation changes.
We will come across multiple beautiful compositions along this trail. That’s why we want to have some extra time to enjoy it as it deserves.
Once in town, it’s time to have a well-deserved shower and rest.
Day 7
After having breakfast in our hotel and before sunrise (around 7:45 AM), we will be picked up to go to a beautiful place for sunrise shots.
Wishing for a dramatic sky, we are going to capture some breathtaking scenes, including a classic Patagonia road shot.
Around 11:00 AM we will have our post-processing class.
After having lunch it’s time to go on a 2-hour hike to a dreamed secret location.
Once back in town and as our workshop’s end is approaching, we will go out for dinner.
Day 8
This is the last day of our photo tour.
After breakfast and checking out, we will begin our journey back to El Calafate. If the mountains are visible, we’ll stop along the way to capture the sunrise.
You will be dropped off at the airport or your hotel.

My Patagonia Photography Workshop with Ramiro was Unforgettable!
My recent photography workshop in the mountains of Patagonia was a simply unforgettable and transformative experience. It was my second trip to Patagonia, and this time I was looking for an opportunity to really immerse myself in the raw nature of the region with a focus on photography. And that is exactly what I found! Our instructor, Ramiro, was an amazing and very knowledgeable photographer. But more than that, his passion for it, and for the natural world around us, was contagious. He took us to breathtaking locations we never would have found on our own, ensuring we were always at the perfect spot to capture incredible photos. He made sure to spend time with each participant, giving advice and critique to ensure we captured the best images possible. The workshop went beyond just technical skills – it was a truly immersive experience that allowed us to connect with the raw beauty of Patagonia’s wild landscapes.
I highly recommend this workshop to anyone who wants to elevate their photography and have an unforgettable adventure in Patagonia. You’ll learn so much, but more importantly, you’ll connect with the beauty and essence of this special place in a whole new way.

Great Teacher
I have attended two workshops in Patagonia led by Ramiro, and both experiences were exceptionally enriching. Despite returning to the same location, I knew I would gain even more from a second trip due to Ramiro’s expertise. Ramiro is an exceptionally talented photographer and teacher, as well as a charismatic workshop leader. He offers personalized instruction tailored to each participant’s skill level, working with a wide range of equipment from smartphones to high-end cameras, and covering both photos and video. His extensive knowledge of Patagonia, combined with his thorough preparation and contingency plans for weather-related issues, ensures a seamless and educational experience for all attendees. I highly recommend reading his social media, which accurately portrays his philosophy on photography.

It was an amazing week!
Ramiro was my guide in a photography workshop in El Chalten. He was very knowledgeable of the area and took our group to very beautiful places.
Most importantly, and besides being professional in all aspects of photography, he has the ability to make everyone feel comfortable with a great sense of humor and attention to each one of us.
I Highly recommend talking with him if you are interested improving your photography or if you are looking for a remarkable experience!

Participating in this workshop in Patagonia has been a real blast, it was definitely worth the time and the money!
– General organization (food, hotel, guide, porters) were perfect to me.
– Patagonian sceneries during autumn are absolutely stunning and unmissable. On top of that, Ramiro knows the place really well and he made it easy to find good shooting spots.
– Ramiro was always available to us help improve/adjust/discuss any photography related matters. For sure, my skills improved a lot after that.
Before signing up, just be aware that:
(I) It is a photography with wild-camping and hiking. It means that you should be ready for a bit of walking and adventure. That is the price to pay to shoot the best pics.
(II) Weather in Patagonia can be a bit tricky: you never know what you’re gonna get.
Once you know that, you should definitely sign-up 🙂
